Central Govt pensioners get dearness relief ahead of Diwali, notification issued

New Delhi: Ahead of Diwali, the Central Government has increased the rate of Dearness Relief (DR) from 34% to 38% for Central Government pensioners/family pensioners. The increased rate of DR will be applicable with effect from July 1st, 2022.

In an Office Memorandum (O.M.) dated 8th October 2022, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) said: “President is pleased to decide that the Dearness Relief admissible to Central Government pensioners/family pensioners shall be enhanced from the existing rate of 34% to 38% of the basic pension/family pension (including additional pension/family pension) w.e.f 01.07.2022.”

DR O.M. for increasing from 34% to 38%

The official DR hike notification comes days after the Finance Ministry increased the rate of Dearness Allowance for Central Government Employees to 38% with effect from July 1st, 2022.

Dearness Relief is provided to pensioners to help them fight against the erosion of monthly pension wealth due to inflation. The computation for DR rate revision is done basis of the 7th Pay Commission recommendation.
