Active Covid cases in country increase to 46,389

New Delhi, 15 September: India added 6,422 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 4,45,16,479 while active cases have risen to 46,389, according to data from the Health Ministry Union updated on Thursday. The death toll rose to 28,250 with 34 deaths including 20 deaths reconciled by Kerala, data updated at 8am. Active cases account for 2.04 percent of all infections while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has risen to 98.71,
percent, the ministry said.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 has increased by 640 cases in 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was 2.04% and the weekly positivity rate was 1.71%, according to the ministry. The number of people who have recovered from the disease rose to 4,39,41,840 while the death rate stood at 1.

The COVID-19 count in India had passed the 20 lakh mark on 7 August 2020, 30 lakh on 23 August, 40 lakh on 5 September and 50 lakh on 16 September. It surpassed 60 lakh on 28 September, 70 lakh on 11 October, surpassed 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and surpassed one-crore mark on 19 December.

The country surpassed the sombre milestone of two crore rupees on May 4th and three crore rupees on June 23rd last year. On January 25 of this year, the four crore mark was exceeded. The 14 new deaths recorded in the past 24 hours include two from Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttarakhand.
