First death of coronavirus in Varanasi, curfew imposed in four areas

Varansai: Varanasi recorded on Sunday its first death from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, Varanai district administration reported.

The district administration was stirred up after the first death of coronavirus in Varanasi and curfew has been imposed in four areas in the city.

The District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said that curfew has been imposed in four areas of the city, Madanpura, Bajardiha, Lohta and Gangapur.

Sharma added two new positive cases came up on Sunday. The first case from Bajradiha area where the woman returned from Jeddah was found positive and the second case is related to the death of corona positive patient of Gangapur.

The first victim of the virus in the city was a 55-year old person from Varanasi’s Gangapur who had tested positive on April 4.

The victim, a shopkeeper, had no travel history and he was suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

He had been admitted in two private hospitals after getting flu-like conditions. The private hospital referred him to BHU Sir Sunderlal Hospital where he died in the ICU on Sunday.
