Customs and CGST employees to contribute one day salary to PM-CARES fund

New Delhi: Customs and CGST employees will contribute their one day salary to Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund) to help the Central government in its efforts to fight coronavirus in the country.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) Chairman M Ajit Kumar on Sunday approved to issue a letter to field formation for the contribution of one day salary of the employees of CBIC to the PM-CARES fund to fight COVID-19.

The amount will be contributed by the CBIC to the fund from various wings, including Customs, Central Goods and Services Tax, Central Excise, Narcotics and others.

The CBIC is the nodal national agency responsible for administering above department.

The employees’ contribution is voluntary and those desirous of opting out will be exempted.

A total of 979 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India which includes 48 foreign nationals. 25 deaths have been caused due to COVID-19 in the country, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday.
