Nilam Sawhney takes over as new Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh): Nilam Sawhney, the 1984 batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, assumed charge as the new chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday.

Nilam Sawhney met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy after taking charge of Chief Secretary.

She has become the first woman chief secretary of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh.

Sawhney was on deputation at the Centre as Social Justice and Empowerment Secretary. Her husband Ajay Sawhney is also an IAS officer and is currently serving as secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Several senior officials met her at her chambers and extended their greetings. She said that the entire administration would work with a team spirit for the development and welfare of the state. She also met the Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy later.

During her career, she had served as collector of several districts and headed many departments as secretary and principal secretary.

She took over the charge from Neerabh Kumar Prasad, who was appointed as the interim Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh.
