Former IRS officer Kumar appointed special expenditure observer for Jharkhand polls

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Sunday appointed former Indian Revenue Service officer B Murali Kumar as a special expenditure observer for the Jharkhand Assembly poll.

Former IRS officer B Murali Kumar was appointed as Special Expenditure Observer for Jharkhand assembly elections.

A Commission statement said he will supervise and monitor work being done by electoral machinery and ensure stringent and effective enforcement action against abuse of money power to allure voters.

Given his past experience in the investigation wing of the Income Tax Department, Kumar was also appointed Special Expenditure Observer for Vellore Parliamentary Constituency in Tamil Nadu and for the recently concluded assembly elections in Maharashtra.

Jharkhand assembly elections will be held in five phases and will start on November 30. Results for the Jharkhand assembly elections will be declared on December 23.

The first phase of elections will be held on November 30, the second phase will be held on December 7, third phase on December 12, fourth phase on December 16 and the last and fifth phase of polling will be held on December 20.
