Two IAS officers removed from posts after CBI books them in UP mining scam

New Delhi: Two IAS officers— who are allegedly involved in the Uttar Pradesh illegal mining scam —were removed from their posts on directions from Chief Minister Adityanath.

The officials have been put on a “waiting list” in respect to future postings.

Secretary, Department of Khadi and Village Industries, Ajay Kumar Singh and Special Secretary of Housing and Urban Planning Department, Pawan Kumar have been removed from their posts and put them on the waiting list.

CBI raided the residences of both officials on Tuesday.

The CBI on Tuesday conducted searches at 11 locations in Saharanpur and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh and Dehradun in Uttarakhand after filing a fresh FIR on Monday in connection with a sand mining scam in Saharanpur against 12 persons, including the both senior IAS officers.

The case relates to alleged irregularities in the allocation of 13 sand mining leases in Saharanpur without following the e-tendering procedure.

Former district magistrates of Saharanpur Singh and Kumar besides 10 lease holders have been named in the FIR as accused for criminal conspiracy, cheating and relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The probe agency claimed to have recovered Rs 15 lakh from the residence of Singh besides documents of two properties, they said.

According to the agency, papers related to two properties and ₹15 lakh in cash were found at the Lucknow residence of Ajay Kumar Singh, a 1998-batch official.

Another accused, Pawan Kumar, is a 2008-batch official.

According to CBI officials, Ajay Kumar Singh named in the FIR from March 28, 2012 to February 12, 2014, while Pawan Kumar was DM of Saharanpur from July 20, 2015 to August 6, 2016.
