Railway Board notifies bonus Rs 17,951 for its employees

New Delhi: Ahead of the festive season,, the Railway Board notified productivity-linked bonus (PLB) up to Rs 17,951, equivalent to 78 days’ wages for the financial year 2017-18 for all its non-gazetted employees. It excludes Railway Protection Force/Railway Protection Security Force (RPF/RPSF) personnel.

Ahead of the Dussehra, railway employees will get bonus Rs 17,951.

The bonus is paid to about 12.26 lakh railway employees each year before the Dussehra festival.

The wage calculation ceiling prescribed for payment of bonus to the non-gazetted railway employees is Rs.7000/- p.m. The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs.17,951 for 78 days, the Railway Board bonus notification says.

Earlier, the bonus proposal was cleared on Wednesday at the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Railway Board had proposed to give 78 days wages as productivity-linked bonus, the same as the last six years.

National Federation of Indian Railwaymen General Secretary M Raghavaiah said: “Since the Railways has earned Rs. 16,000 crore more than the last year’s earnings and transported a record 1,161 million tonnes of freight this time, we had demanded an 80-day bonus. But finally, we agreed on 78 days.”

This could mean that the all gazetted railway employees (excluding RPF/RPSF personnel) will get Rs 17,951 as bonus before Dussehra. The burden on railways is estimated to cost Rs 2044.31 crore.

The Railway Board expects that the bonus would serve as an incentive and result in motivating a large number of employees.
