Palaniswami met Governor C Vidyasagar Rao at the Raj Bhawan here at 11:30 a.m.

The Governor appoints Palanisamy as CM of Tamil Nadu, asks him to seek vote of confidence in 15 days.

Tamil Nadu Minister D Jayakumar said swearing in ceremony of Palanisamy as CM, will be held later this evening.

AIADMK MLAs hailed the decision of Governor and Sasikala’s supporters raised slogans against acting Chief Minister O Panneerselvam outside Golden Bay Resorts in Kovathur.

This is people’s victory, we will carry forward Amma’s legacy in the coming days: AIADMK Senior Leader M Thambidurai said.

Palaniswamy had been appointed as the legislative party leader on Tuesday soon after the conviction of AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala in the disproportionate sssets case. The same evening Palaniswamy had met the governor and also claimed that he had the support of 124 MLAs.

Panneerselvam had on Feb 7 broken away from the Sasikala-led AIADMK and sought to gain the support of a majority MLAs within the party. His plan was thwarted as Sasikala camp had transported most of the AIADMK MLAs to a resort at Koovathur near Chennai.

The MLAs continued to remain in the resort for about nine days in a row now and they were heard cheering for Palaniswamy soon after the news of the Governors decision reached them.

Although, party general secretary V K Sasikala is presently lodged in the Bangalore prison after her conviction in the DA case, the elevation of her nephew T T V Dinakaran as the deputy general secretary of AIADMK on Wednesday will ensure that she as a tight grip over the proceedings in government and the party.
