DRI arrests four people for smuggling heroin worth Rs 21 crore

Varanasi: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested four people for allegedly smuggling heroin weighing around 7 kg worth around Rs 21 crore.

“DRI city unit seized 7 kg of gold worth Rs 21 crore from four people identified as Ashraf Saikh alias Feeroz, Abubakar Siddaqui of Murshidabad, Asadul Saikh of Birbhumi and Kamal Hussain of Malda,” city DRI official Anand Rai said.

The DRI got specific inputs that a suspicious SUV with four people on board was intercepted by DRI Unit Varanasi at Daphi bypass road on Saturday and detained them with recovering the consignment of heroin in seven packets of one kg in two secret cavities under front seats, Rai said.

“The four people in their statements before DRI officials said that the consignment meant for delivery to Barabanki from Malda, West Bengal,” Rai added.

“After completing necessary formalities, all four people boarded the SUV were arrested” Rai confirmed.

Later, they were produced before in-charge magistrate, who sent them to judicial custody.

Earlier, the DRI Lucknow had arrested Sanjeet Das in connection with heroin smuggling and seized 4.65 kg of heroin in Lucknow.
