Customs superintendent suspended after bribe video goes viral
Mumbai:A Customs superintendent was placed under suspension after a video showing him accepting a bribe, which was gone viral on Thursday.
The video clip that showed the superintendent and a sepoy accepting Rs 4,000 bribe from a flyer at the international airport.
The video clip shows the flyer in conversation with the superintendent at a counter.
The superintendent is heard asking for money from the passenger.
The superintendent tells the passenger that he will face trouble for carrying certain items in his luggage and asks him to cough up Rs 4,000. The passenger agrees after which the superintendent calls the sepoy and asks him to collect the money. The sepoy takes the passenger to a nearby cabin and collects the cash.
The superintendent was identified as N G Shelar, presently posted at Nhava Sheva customs. Shelar was posted at the airport two years ago, when the video was reportedly shot.
Shelar’s suspension follows an order issued by Chief Commissioner of Customs, Devender Singh,, a customs official said.
