Customs arrests man for smuggling gold worth Rs 1.56 crore at IGIA

New Delhi: A man was today arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valued at about Rs 1.56 crore at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.

The accused was intercepted by customs officials on his arrival from Bahrain. On detailed examination, he was found carrying 5.5 kgs of gold, said Vinayak Azaad, Additional Commissioner of Customs at the IGIA.

He said the gold was in the form of bars of 250 gms each.

The accused, who hails from Kerala, has been arrested and the yellow metal worth Rs 1,56 crore seized.
