Sting shows Trinamool ministers accepting bribes

Kolkata: In a sting operation carried out by a news website, showed at least a dozen senior leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress, including ministers and MPs, purportedly accepting bribe to the tune of lakhs of rupees to settle some “business issues”.

The sting operation was carried out by Mathew Samuel and Angel Abraham of Narada News, and comes as a jolt to the Trinamool Congress ahead of the crucial West Bengal Assembly polls.

The operation started before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Bengal.

Trinamool leaders were seen accepting cash from the representatives of a fictitious company – Impex Consultancy – though it was not clear why they were taking the money.

The website on Monday released the footage exposing 12 top leaders, including former railway minister Mukul Roy, State Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee, Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim, Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee, jailed TMC bribes 15032016Trinamool leader and former sports and transport minister Madan Mitra, and some other party MPs.

TMC Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien dubbed it a “dirty trick to politically malign Trinamool Congress in the run up to the polls”.

“Whoever has tried to concoct this smear campaign may please go ahead and concoct your smear campaign or your videos, your doctored videos,” O’Brien said on his Facebook page.

“It is a doctored video. It is a conspiracy against TMC ahead of elections. We will find out who are the people behind it and take legal action,” said Mukul Roy.

BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh demanded the resignation of CM Mamata Banerjee. Leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra said: “It is a matter of shame that this government is still ruling.”
