Four Central Excise Intelligence officers arrested for taking bribe, sent to CBI custody for 5 days

Dehradun: Four Central Excise Intelligence officers including Assistant Director were arrested for allegedly accepting bribe and sent to CBI custody for 5 days.

The CBI nabbed red handed Anil Kumar Mishra, an Assistant Director in the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence, Dehradun from his office on Friday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to settle a service tax issue of a businessman.

Three of his subordinates senior intelligence office Satendra Kumar and intelligence officers A K Gupta and Vivek Pandey were arrested on Saturday.

The four had together allegedly put pressure on A K Yadav, an industrial unit owner at Rudrapur, to pay a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to “settle some issues related to service tax”.

The CBI produced them before the CBI special court on Saturday, which sent them to five days of CBI remand. On the request of defence lawyer, the court directed that the required medical attention be provided to Mishra, who is the main accused and is suffering from diabetes.

Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence unit at Shastri Nagar on Haridwar road, Dehradun has six employees and is headed by the Assistant Director Anil Kumar Mishra.

“The Central Excise Intelligence unit had conducted raid on premises of A K Yadav on March 30, 2015 for assessment of service tax and had seized office records and put pressure on Yadav to pay a bribe to get the issue settled. After rounds of negotiation, a deal was struck for Rs 10 lakh, which was to be handed over to Mishra at his office on Friday evening,” said the CBI officer.

Following A K Yadav, had approached the CBI, Dehradun on Thursday morning .
