G Mohan Kumar assumes charge as Defence Secretary

New Delhi: Senior IAS office G Mohan Kumar today took over the charge as Defence Secretary for a two-year term, succeeding R K Mathur.

“Shri G Mohan Kumar today took over as the new Defence Secretary, succeeding Shri R K Mathur, who laid down office yesterday” a statement from Ministry of Defence said.

Kumar, a 1979 batch Odisha cadre official was Defence Production Secretary since 01 September 2014 before taking over as the Defence Secretary.

The vacancy was created following retirement of R K Mathur, a 1977 batch Manipur-Tripura cadre IAS officer, who had taken over as the Defence Secretary in November, 2011.

Kumar is a post-Graduate in Chemistry and an MBA from UK.

He has worked in various ministries and departments including Steel, Water Resources, Rural Development, Fisheries, Export Development and VAT Administration.
