L C Goyal appointed as Home Secretary

New Delhi: Senior IAS officer L C Goyal has been appointed as Union Home Secretary following resignation of incumbent Anil Goswami.

Goyal, a 1979 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, is presently working as as Secretary in the Union Ministry of Rural Development.

The 60-year-old Goyal had earlier served in the Home Ministry as Joint Secretary (Internal Security) a few years ago.

The order of appointment of Goyal was issued by the government, official sources said tonight.

Goswami, a 1977 batch IAS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre, was appointed by the previous UPA government and has his two-year tenure till June this year.

Goswami resigned as Home Secretary after the government asked him to put in his papers in the wake of controversy over his alleged attempt to stall the arrest of Saradha scam accused Matang Sinh, a former Congress minister at the Centre.
