Chief Medical Officer Dr Ajay Aggarwal, in a press conference, said the district magistrate showed symptoms similar to that of swine flu and was admitted to Pushpanjai Crosslay Hospital yesterday evening.

Kapil Singh, ADM, suspects that Sharma might have contracted the disease after meeting the husband of Shubra Saxena, the DM of Shahjahanpur. Saxena is currently undergoing treatment for swine flu in a Delhi hospital.

Another possibility, according to Kapil Singh, is that he might have contracted the disease between February 11 and 14, when “he had attended an IAS officers’ meeting in Lucknow as he had been unwell since his return on Feb 14”.

The CMO Aggarwal said, “At present, the DM Sharma is in an isolation ward and is doing fine.”

The staff and family members of DM Sharma, who were in immediate contact with him, have also been tested.

The The CMO Aggarwal said, “42 have been found to be positive out of 350 swine flu tests conducted in Ghaziabad so for. Most of whom have been referred to Delhi hospitals.”
