UP govt appoints Arvind Kumar Jain as new DGP, A K Gupta retires

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government today appointed Arvind Kumar Jain as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the state replacing Arun Kumar Gupta, who retired today.

The state government had sent a proposal to Union Ministry of Home Affairs to extend Gupta’s services for another three months on January 24.

Gupta was appointed the DGP on January 1, a month before he was scheduled to retire.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs Friday turned down job extension to the 1977 batch IPS officer, Gupta.

A 1979 batch IPS officer, Jain was posted as DG Training before this.

Jain, who was born on March 13, 1955 at Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, is a post graduate in Modern History.

Gupta’s tenure at the top post of Uttar Pradesh police will end in March 2015.
