Gurucharan gets additional charge DG, Bureau of Indian Standards
New Delhi: G Gurucharan, a 1982 batch IAS officer of Karnataka cadre, was given the additional charge of the Director General of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).Gurucharan is currently posted as Additional Secretary in Department of Consumer Affairs.
The vacancy was necessitated following appointment of Sunil Soni, a 1981 batch IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre as Special Secretary in the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs.
Additional Secretary in Department of Consumer Affairs, G Gurucharan was directed to look after the additional of charge of Director General (DG), Bureau of Indian Standards for a period of three months with effect from November 28, 2014 or till a new incumbent is appointed, whichever is earlier, said a government press release.
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), a body under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, is into formulation of standards for all segments of industry and business.
It also certifies products, popularly known as ISI mark, certification of imported products and hallmarking of jewellery.
