CBI nabs Income Tax officer in Uttarakhand

New Delhi: CBI today nabbed an Income Tax Officer at Khatima in Uttarakhand while taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the Managing Director of a hospital in Khatima.

A case was registered yesterday against A K Singh, Income Tax Officer, Khatima, Udhamsingh Nagar (Uttarakhand) on the complaint of the Managing Director of Guru Ramdas Hospital, Sardar Kashmir Singh Mehrok.

Mehrok had lodged a complaint in this regard on January 8 saying that the Income Tax officer had demanded Rs 2 lakh from him in return for disposing of an alleged Income Tax department notice against him.

“CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh as advance from Mehrok at Income Tax Office, Khatima.

Simultaneously, a search of the residential properties of the accused is under progress at Haldwani and Dehradun,” CBI spokesperson said here.
