IRS officer Deepak Shetty appointed as new Director General of Shipping
New Delhi: New Delhi: Senior IRS officer Deepak Shetty was appointed on Friday as new Director General of Shipping, in Ministry of Shipping in the vacancy of Maharashtra cadre 1982 batch IAS officer Gautam Chatterjee.
Shetty is a 1980 batch officer of Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) Cadre.
Shetty has acquired a reputation as an expert on Shipping management, as he also worked as Joint Director General of Shipping since August, 2011 on deputation.
The 59-year-old officer, who earlier served in his parent department as Commissioner of Central Excise, Bhubaneshwar and other lower posts in Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) Cadre.
Shetty, who was born on November 02, 1956, is a graduate in Arts.
Director General of Shipping is one of the most sought after position in the country, with executives, IAS officers and other government officials in the fray in past.
Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shetty on Wednesday in his cadre, as Director General (Shipping) under the Shipping Ministry in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary, a Department of Personnel and Training statement said.
