India continues to decline coronavirus cases

New Delhi: India has reported 45,230 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, a sign of the continuing downward trajectory of infections.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 8,55,800 samples were tested on November 1.

The Health Ministry also recorded 496 more deaths on Monday, for a total of 1,22,607.

The latest figures put the nation’s total virus cases 82,29,313, just below the United States.

India had a steep increase in cases in July, adding more than 2 million in August and another 3 million in September. But it has gone through a slowdown in pace since mid-September, when daily infections hit a record 97,894 with the highest death toll at 1,275.

More than 7.5 million Indians have recovered from COVID-19, according to the Ministry of Health.

Some experts note that the decline in cases indicates that the virus may have finally stabilized in India, but others question the testing methods and warn that a major holiday, as well as the winter season, could result in new outbreaks.
