Amit Shah tests positive for coronavirus, hospitalised

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah says he has tested positive for the coronavirus and he has been admitted to Medanta hospital, located in Haryana’s Gurugram near Delhi.

Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that he had tested positive for coronavirus and had been admitted to hospital.

Shah, 55, tweeted on Sunday that his health is fine and requested those who had come in his contact to isolate themselves and get tested.

Shah is No. 2 in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. He has been visiting hospitals and holding meetings with top officials as part of the government’s massive efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections in the country.

“I request all of you who came in contact with me in the last few days to isolate yourselves and get tested,” Shah said in a tweet.

The pandemic has claimed the life of a minister from Uttar Pradesh. Kamal Rani Varun, 62, died at Lucknow’s Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences this morning.

Last week, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tested positive for the virus. He has been in hospital for nine days, and tweeted today to say that he was well.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has also tested positive for coronavirus, said Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital, where he has been admitted.

However, Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has tested negative for COVID-19 and has been discharged from the hospital.
