Praveen Pardeshi takes charge as BMC Commissioner

Mumbai: Praveen Pardeshi, an IAS officer of 1985 batch, took charge as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner on Monday. He was welcomed to the office today by outgoing civic chief Ajoy Mehta.

Praveen Pardeshi took charge as the BMC commissioner on Monday, with Ajoy Mehta welcoming him to the office.

Mehta, who has been appointed as Maharashtra new chief secretary.

The 57-year-old bureaucrat, Pardeshi had been holding the position of additional chief secretary to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and has been an important member of his core team since 2014.

He has also previously served in various other departments including Revenue and Forest departments. Additionally, he was a part of the organising teams for ‘Make In India’ and ‘Make In Maharashtra’ summits.

Pardeshi holds a Masters degree in Social and Economic policy.

Mehta, meanwhile, will take over the post of Chief Secretary from UPS Madan, who took voluntary retirement and has been named as special advisor to the CM.

Mehta, who had been holding the position of civic chief since April 2015, is set to retire in September.
