BJP fields former IAS officer from Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha cadre IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi, who took voluntary retirement last year, joined the BJP, will contest from Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency as the BJP announced her name its fist list.

Former Odisha cadre IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi will contest from Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency on BJP ticket.

The 49-year-old former bureaucrat and now BJP’s candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election said, “People of Odisha now want change and  I want to make Bhubaneswar as the best constituency in the country.”

She also said she chose the BJP primarily because its priority was aligned with hers – development. Besides, she said, “Working for MGNREGA (Centre’s flagship rural jobs scheme), I got the opportunity to work closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has a unique energy. I was deeply inspired by his working style, his dedication, transparency in decisions and how he could extract similar commitment from those around him.”

The former IAS officer, who last worked as joint secretary, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) on central deputation, was scheduled to return to Odisha on November 29, 2018.

But Sarangi had sought VRS in September 2018. Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved her application on November 15, 2018.

A native of Bhagalpur in Bihar and a daughter of an English professor, and married to a fellow Odia IAS officer Santosh Sarangi,

Aparajita said she didn’t contemplate a political career until recently – she was a student leader but not affiliated to any political party.
