Ex-IAS officer Elvis Gomes to contest from South Goa Lok Sabha seat

Panaji (Goa): Former IAS officer Elvis Gomes will contest from the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency on AAP ticket in the upcoming general elections.

In a statement, AAP’s in-charge of Goa Durgesh Pathak declared the former bureaucrat as party’s candidate from the South Goa seat.

Gomes, former Goa’s Inspector General of Prisons, who  joined Aam Aadmi Party on October 05, 2016 and now AAP state convenor.

He was the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the 2017 Assembly elections held in Goa but he had lost his deposit in the polls from Cuncolim Assembly constituency.

Gomes opted for voluntary retirement in July 2016, faced serious charges of corruption and was booked by the Goa Police’s Anti-Corruption Branch in connection with a land scam.

The decision to field Gomes from South Goa was taken by AAP’s political affairs committee.

The AAP candidate from North Goa seat is likely to be announced later by the party.
