Retired IAS officer joins UPSC as member

New Delhi: Bharat Bhushan Vyas, a retired IAS officer, took oath of office as member the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Thursday, a government statement said.

Retired IAS officer Bharat Bhushan Vyas today joined as UPSC member.

Vyas, a 1986-batch Jammu and Kashmir cadre officer, was administered oath of office and secrecy by Chairman UPSC Arvind Saxena.

“Born in 1957, Bharat Bhushan Vyas joined Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1986. He served in State and Centre in various capacities and retired as Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir,” the official statement of the UPSC stated.

A graduate in Botany, 61-year-old Vyas worked in state and Centre in various capacities including Srinagar Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur DC, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, and Principal Secretary Finance. He has spent most of the time of his career in Jammu and Kashmir. He also had stints in Raj Bhawan as Deputy Secretary and Principal Secretary to the Governor and retired as the chief secretary, Jammu and Kashmir.

Before assuming charge as member, UPSC, he was serving as adviser to the Jammu and Kashmir governor.

Vyas will have a term of nearly three years, when he attains the age of 65 years.
