Central Excise official given 4-yr imprisonment in DA case

Chennai: A special CBI court today sentenced a Central Excise official to four-year imprisonment in a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.

Central Excise Superintendent T Chandrasekar was convicted and sentenced to four-year rigorous imprisonment and was imposed a fine of Rs three lakh for for possessing assets to the tune of Rs 85.38 lakh disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The verdict was given by CBI Special Judge D Vasanthi.

According to the prosecution, Chandrasekar had acquired disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 85.38 lakh during the check period January 1, 2011 to April 8, 2015.

The anti-corruption wing of the CBI, which investigated the case, filed charge sheet against Chandrasekar.

Confiscation of properties was also ordered to the extent of disproportionate assets.
