A B Pandey takes over as Revenue Secretary

New Delhi: A B Pandey took over as the Revenue Secretary upon superannuation of Hasmukh Adhia.

The outgoing Finance Secretary and Revenue Secretary, Hasmukh Adhia today welcomes the new Revenue Secretary, Ajay Bhushan Pandey.

Pandey, a 1984 batch Maharashtra-cadre IAS officer, will continue to hold the charge as Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) CEO as well as the Chairman of Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN).

The Finance and Revenue Secretary Adhia, a 1981-batch Gujarat cadre IAS office, was the top bureaucrat in the Finance Ministry for four years and also held the post of the the specific responsibility of the Revenue Secretary for the last three years.

Pandey with over 34 years of experience in state and Central governments, was welcomed to his new office by the outgoing Finance and Revenue Secretary Adhia.

Pandey joined UIDAI CEO on May 31, 2016. He played key a role as the UIDAI chief, where he steered Aadhaar across the country and drafted the Aadhaar legislation. He was also instrumental in scaling up Aadhaar in the delivery of government subsidies and benefits which led to savings of more than Rs 90,000 crore during the last three years by eliminating ghosts and duplicates and ensuring the benefits reach the real and deserving beneficiaries.

Pandey is a graduate of electrical engineering from IIT, Kanpur. He received MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota.

Talking to reporters after taking charge as Revenue Secretary, Pandey said, “My priority at this time would be to improve the tax-GDP ratio in the country by integration of technology into the entire taxation system and also making the procedures and rules and regulations simpler so that people have natural incentive to comply to the taxation regime.”
