Mughalsarai Junction now officially becomes Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction

UP government on Tuesday released a notification, stating that Mughalsarai Junction has been renamed Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction.

Lucknow: The Mughalsarai railway station of Uttar Pradesh is now Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay station after the approval of Governor Ram Naik, ANI reported on Tuesday.

The move to rename the station is part of an effort initiated by Yogi Adityanath in the memory of Jan Sangh leader Deen Dayal Upadhyaya as he was found dead in mysterious circumstances near Mughalsarai station on February 11, 1968.

In August last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs had cleared a proposal by the state government. This had led to protests by the Opposition in the Parliament.

Mughalsarai station, built by British, is one of the oldest and biggest railway junctions in the country. The proposal to rename the railway station was put forward by the BJP government in August last year.
