S M Vijayanand takes over as Kerala chief secretary

Thruvananthapuram: S M Vijayanand took over as the chief secretary of Kerala here on Saturday. He took over from P K Mohanty, who retired from service after a brief stint of two months as chief secretary.

An IAS officer of 1980 batch, Vijayanand has returned before his deputation period at the Centre as secretary of ministry of panchayati raj was completed.

Vijayanand will serve as the chief secretary till March 31 next year as he is due to retire on the same day.

In the farewell meeting, P k Mohanty said that he had enjoyed great job satisfaction during his stint in the state.

“All these years of service in the state, I could see a very high level of professionalism, which is very rare in today’s administration,” Mohanty said.

In his address, Vijayanand expressed hope that his experience would make a difference while working for the downtrodden sections of society.

After taking charge, Vijayanand also convened a meeting of department heads and reviewed the sanitation, drainage and garbage issues of the state.
