Kakinada (AP): Maharashtra Governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao today stressed on the need for improving the quality of education so that students can face global challenges.

Addressing a function after unveiling a bronze statue of eminent doctor and educationist late P V N Raju at a college here today, Rao described Raju as a great person, a social thinker and recalled his service to the society as a doctor, politician and intellectual.

He said skilled youth are needed so that they take the country on the path of progress.

The Governor also underlined the importance of choice based credit system in the field of higher education and also skill development programmes in colleges and universities.

He regretted that not even a single Indian university was among the top ranked varsities globally, and hoped that the education system would be thoroughly reformed to bring out the best talent among the youth.

He suggested to utilise the services of retired teachers to groom the students.

Rao also called upon the Telugu people to unitedly strive to promote their great tradition and culture.

AP’s BJP unit president K Hari Babu, TDP MP from Kakinada Thota Narasimham, state Endowments Minister P Manikyala Rao, former Union Minister M M Pallam Raju among others were present on the occasion.
