CBI arrests it’s own inspector on extortion charges

Chandigarh: CBI on Thursday arrested a local CBI inspector Ravinder Singla along with his associate Gautam Sharma here for allegedly extorting a Honda City car from a leading businessman.

Singla, who was attached with Special Crime Branch (SCB), allegedly threatened the businessman of slapping a false case against him.

Sources in CBI said Singla had taken the car from the businessman around one year back claiming he wanted to use it for merely one week. But, when the businessman wanted his car back, Singla started threatening him to implicate in a false case.

CBI took up the investigation of the case and gathered circumstantial evidence against the accused. Searches were conducted at the residential premises of the both accused persons and the Honda City car of businessman has been recovered from the possession of Singla, who was attached with Chandigarh branch for last two and half years.

Both the arrested accused were produced before a local court, here on Thursday, following the court has remanded them in CBI custody for 4 days.
