Aligarh: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani is tipped to be the new Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University.

A 1978 batch-batch retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Usmani is currently serving as Uttar Pradesh chief information commissioner.

He had earlier served as joint secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). In the international arena, he served as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.

The executive council of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Saturday recommended five names for the consideration of the university court.

The four others are – Professor Furqan Qamar, Secretary General, Association of Indian universities, Professor Sayed E Hasnain, former Vice Chancellor of University of Hyderabad, Brig S Ahmad Ali, Pro Vice Chancellor of AMU and Professor Tariq Mansoor, Principal and CMS, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of AMU.

The five names, which was sent to the AMU court, the court will short list three names to forward it to the President of India, who is the Visitor of AMU.

The new appointee will take over as the new Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University from present VC Lt Gen (retd) Zameer Uddin Shah after President’s nod.
