One of the rumours doing the rounds was that Thakur’s absence is interpreted as a public display of displeasure for being shunted to Delhi.

Thakur was conspicuous by his absence at the DGP office on Saturday to hand over the charge to P P Pandey, director of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), who has been given additional charge as DGP.

Additional DGP (administration) Mohan Jha completed the formalities of Pandey assuming the additional charge.

Highly placed sources in the state Home Department said, “Thakur proceeded on sick leave after he was delivered transfer order on Friday afternoon.”
