President gives nod for Dr V Ramgopal Rao’s appointment as IIT Delhi Director

New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday appointed Dr V Ramgopal Rao as Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, sources said.

Dr V Ramgopal Rao will be the new Director of IIT Delhi.

Rao’s name had been sent by HRD Ministry to President Mukherjee for approval, they said.

Rao is presently teaching Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay.

He is also the Chief Investigator for the Centre of Excellence in Nanoelectronics

Rao received the highest national award in India for researchers entitled the “Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar” Prize in Engineering Sciences in 2005.

His work on nano-mechanical cantilever technologies has resulted in a start-up company at IIT Bombay (NanoSniff Technologies Pvt Ltd.

Rao got his B Tech degree from Kakatiya University in 1986 and his M Tech from IIT Bombay in 1991.
