An analysis of the central government data reveals that the accused booked in ‘trap’ cases are usually lower and middle-level customs and central excise officials while disproportionate assets is the only tool which lends itself to expose the high and mighty including the officers belonging to the Indian Revenue service.

However, in this case, the middle-level central excise official was convicted in disproportionate assets case.
