Former CAG Vinod Rai gets Padma Bhushan

New Delhi: Former CAG Vinod Rai has been chosen for this year’s Padma Bhushan award for his distinguished work.

67-year-old Rai was Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) between 2008-13. A 1972-batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, Rai held various positions in the state as well as central government.

He had served as Secretary, Financial Services and Additional Secretary in the Banking Division including banks and insurance companies in the Union Finance Ministry.

Rai, who has a Masters Degree in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi and master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.

Rai is credited with bringing to the fore financial irregularities in the 2G spectrum allocation, coal mines allotment and 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games during his stint as CAG.

Rai, who was born Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, has been awarded Padma Bhushan for his contribution in the field of civil services.
