M C Mishra appointed new CBDT member

New Delhi, Dec 2 (PTI) Senior IRS officer M C Mishra has been appointed by the government as a member in the CBDT, the apex policy-making body of the Income Tax department.

 Anita Kapur, the outgoing CBDT Chairperson, was appointed as an advisor on tax reforms for a period of six months.

Mishra, a 1979-batch Indian Revenue Service officer, was till recently posted as the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Pune.

Officials said the appointment orders for Mishra were issued by the Finance Ministry recently and he has taken over the charge.

His portfolio will soon be notified by the Ministry, sources said, he may get the charge of Personnel and Vigilance or Income Tax.

Only yesterday, government had appointed A K Jain as the acting Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes after incumbent Anita Kapur retired on November 30.

Kapur has been appointed as an adviser on tax reforms in the Ministry for a period of six months.

Apart from Chairman, the CBDT has six members and is the supreme body for framing policy and administrative issues related to direct taxes and the IT Department.
