He also warned secretaries concerned of ‘stern action’ if they did not keep an eye on the day-to-day functioning of their departments, an official release said.

Officials and employees of various departments of the state secretariat were caught unaware as Rawat arrived at their offices, accompanied by his secretaries and other officials.

Rawat checked the attendance registers at the offices and expressed “displeasure” over officials going on leave without their leave being sanctioned, the release stated.

He also rummaged through the huge stack of files and issued strict instructions for their quick movement and speedy clearance.

Noting that a major change in the work culture of government offices is needed for development, he asked joint secretaries and additional secretaries of the departments concerned to take stock of their sections periodically and take errant officials to task, it said.

The CM also warned them of “tough action” if they were found to be lackadaisical in their approach.

Rawat then headed to Haridwar road and inspected some Uttarakhand Roadways buses to see if they were being run properly.

He spoke to the passengers and addressed their problems.

He also asked the officials to ensure that space allotted to transporters for their offices are not converted into godowns, the release further added.
