The young woman DSP, an investigating officer in the sensational murder case of dalit youth Gokulraj, was found hanging at her residence on Friday evening. The state government on Saturday transferred the case to the Crime Branch – Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID).

The suicide of Vishnu Priya took a new turn with her father Ravi and one of her batch mates yesterday raising allegations of harassment by her superiors in connection with a case related to the murder of Dalit youth Gokulraj, which she was probing.

The state police have said they recovered a 16-page ‘suicide note’ in which Vishnu Priya had stated that it was her third suicide attempt and requested her mother not to create an issue over it. Accordingly, the state government rejected the CBI probe.

DMK President M Karunanidhi said a probe by the CBI would bring out the truth in the case and give justice to her kin. He urged the Madras high court to take suo motu cognizance of the death and hold the inquiry in a time-bound manner.

” The hasty announcement for a CB-CID inquiry goes to show that there as an attempt to suppress the truth in the case and it is an attempt to cover up the suicide of official,” he alleged.
