Former Indian ambassador to Nepal Jayant Prasad appointed new IDSA chief

New Delhi: Former Indian ambassador to Nepal Jayant Prasad was Tuesday appointed the new director general of premier government think tank Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses (ISDA).

“Mr Jayant Prasad appointed the new DG of IDSA,” tweeted defence ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar.

Prasad was earlier India’s ambassador to Afghanistan at the time of the 2008 and 2009 attacks on the Indian embassy attacks in Kabul.

Prasad has also served as India’s permanent representative to the Conference on Disarmament, Geneva, ambassador to Algeria, and counsellor for trade access and development cooperation at the Indian Mission to the European Union in Brussels. He had also served as joint secretary (Americas) in the external affairs ministry.

He was India’s ambassador to Nepal from August 25, 2011 to August 25, 2013.

The post of director general of IDSA had been vacant since August 2014. Prasad takes charge at a special moment in the history of IDSA as 2015 marks the fiftieth year of existence of the think tank.
