But these officers will be posted as ‘Assistant Secretary’ in 39 Central Ministries from August 31 to November 31 this year as per a new rule introduced by the government for a better understanding of the working of central government before their state postings.

Current, IAS officers were eligible to come on Central deputation only after nine years of service at their cadre.

“The officers will be given a joining time from August 22 to August 30 but no joining time will be given at the time of relieving by Government of India and they must join their state postings immediately,” a DoPT official said.

“The officers have been told to report to the Joint Secretary (Adminsitration) of the respective ministies and informed that a Joint Secretary will be assigned as their ‘mentor’ and the designation, Assistant Secretary, was thought of to avoid any controversy, since section officers are from Central Secretariat Service,” the DoPT official added.
