Tradition of discussions on Guv appointment wasn’t followed, says Nitish

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday said the tradition of holding discussions was not followed as far as the appointment of the Governor of the state is concerned.

Former president of BJP’s Scheduled Castes Morcha, R N Kovind was yesterday appointed as the new Governor of Bihar

Former president of BJP’s Scheduled Castes Morcha, R N Kovind was yesterday appointed as the new Governor of Bihar.

“As per the tradition, the Union Home Minister holds discussion with Chief Minister and informs him, I just said no discussions were held with me. I didn’t comment on any individual, just said the tradition of holding discussions or at least informing wasn’t followed,” said Nitish.

“We are seeing that the BJP people are giving out the Governor’s caste identity. They want to look at everything through caste. Whoever takes charge as Governor of Bihar will be Bihar Governor, not a leader of a particular community,” he added.

Senior BJP leader R N Kovind was yesterday appointed as the new Governor of Bihar, months ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

Kovind is a former president of BJP’s Scheduled Castes Morcha.

“Ramnath Kovind is a senior statesman who will serve the people of Bihar well due to his extensive experience in politics and administration. Nitish Kumar’s protest against Kovind is a manifestation of his anti-Dalit mentality. First, he disrespected Jitan Ram Manjhi and now he is opposing Kovind,” said Bihar BJP president Mangal Pandey.

According to BJP sources, Kovind’s appointment as the governor was sure to further sway Dalit votes towards the NDA, especially after Jitan Ram Manjhi too was on the side on the NDA.

“With Ram Vilas Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi with us, and now with Nitish having protested against a Dalit as the new governor, it is surely going to pan out well for us in the Assembly election,” a senior BJP national functionary said.
