Bimal Julka retires later this month, no announcement yet on I&B secretary

New Delhi: The government is yet to announce the replacement of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Bimal Julka, who is retiring later this month.

A 1979-batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, Mathur has been in the Information & Broadcasting Ministry since July, 2013.

He had worked earlier in various other ministries like Civil Aviation, Defence, Finance and Human Resource Development apart from holding positions in Madhya Pradesh government.

An MA in psychology from Delhi University, Julka served as Additional Secretary and Special Secretary in Ministries of Finance and External Affairs from July 15, 2010 to January 11, 2013 and January 11, 2013 to June 30, 2013 respectively.

Julka had been actively involved in breaking the deadlock to end the crisis at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.

His colleagues respect him as an upright officer.

A Gujarat-cadre IAS officer, Tapan Ray, who is now working as Director General, National Informatics Centre, is widely tipped to be the new Information and Broadcasting Secretary.
