IFS officer Swaminathan appointed Secretary, Consular, Passport & Visa

New Delhi: Government on Monday appointed R Swaminathan as the secretary as well Consular, Passport & Visa and Special Assignment in the Ministry of External Affairs.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri R Swaminathan, IFS (1980) as Secretary (Consular, Passport & Visa and Special Assignment) by temporarily upgrading the post held by him to the level of Secretary up to the date of his superannuation i.e. 31.8.2015,” a order of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions said.

Swaminathan, a 1980 batch IFS officer, is presently working as Special Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

His post of Special Secretary has temporarily been upgraded to the level of secretary till the date of his superannuation, which is August 31, 2015.

Swaminathan started his diplomatic career in Egypt where he studied Arabic language at the American University in Cairo (AUC) from 1982 to 1984.
