“We do not have any investigation wing at the moment and it is an advisory body in nature,” Vigilance Commissioner Rajiv said.

With the establishment of the Lokpal in future, the CVC would have an investigation wing which would probe specific cases referred to it by the Lokpal, Rajiv said at an interaction organised by Merchants Chamber of Commerce here today.

Presently, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) was referring cases to the CBI for investigation.

The official said that after Lokpal, CVC would also be able to put pressure on the concerned disciplinary authorities to carry out punishment of the guilty, if corruption charges were found to be true.

Asked when the Lokpal Bill was likely to be tabled in Parliament, the official said that it should come but was not sure of the time.

“The Parliamentary panel dealing with it had already sought opinion from the CVC office,” he said.

Today officers of the commission held a meeting with the officers of the coal sector and interacted on how pilferage could be reduced during transport of the fossil fuel for which RFID readers, CCTVs and GPS gadgets would be used.

It would also hold similar meetings on power, steel and others sectors as well, the official said.
