Tearful adieu to constable shot by suspected SIMI activists

Hyderabad: Telangana police paid a tearful farewell to constable K Nagaraju who died fighting two suspected members of the banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in an exchange of fire in Nalgonda district.

A pall of gloom descended on the remote village of Rasoolgudem in Kattangur mandal after constable Nagaraju’s body was bought here for last rites, according to an official release issued here today.

A team of senior state level police officials from Hyderabad and Nalgonda district were present.

Inspector General Naveen Chand and Nalgonda Superintendent of Police T Prabhakar Rao, were among those who attended the last rites of constable Nagaraju.

ADGP (Law and Order) Sudeep Lakhtakia also attended the funeral of Nagaraju on behalf of Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma, the release said.

Yesterday, two suspected SIMI assailants namely Aijajuddeen and Aslam opened fire at a police patrol near Janakipuram in Nalgonda district, killing constable K Nagaraju, critically injuring sub-inspector D Siddaiah and also injuring circle inspector Bala Ganga Reddy, even as both the assailants were shot dead in the exchange of fire, the police said earlier.

According to the police, Aijajuddeen and Aslam, who were among escapees from a Madhya Pradesh jail in 2013, are on the run after killing two policemen on April 2 at Suryapet town of Nalgonda district.
