A case of cheating, forgery and impersonating a public servant has been registered against Chaudhry, the fake IAS officer.

“She was arrested from a city hotel late last night by the SIT probing the case. She has been arrested under sections 420 (cheating, dishonesty), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC,” SP (City) Ajay Singh told PTI.

She will be produced in a local court later in the day and taken on judicial custody, he said.

The police official denied the woman’s allegation that there was an attempt to shield LBSNAA Deputy Director Saurabh Jain by authorities as he had held key positions in the administration.

“Though I am not directly associated with the investigation as it is being handled by the SIT, I can firmly say no one is being protected. Interrogation of the woman goes on and any other name that crops up in the course of the investigation will be quizzed. There is no question of anyone being spared,” Singh said.

Chaudhry stayed in an IAS training academy, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie for 6 months on a fake identity card.

Chaudhry – had claimed that she stayed at the institute with the help of a fake ID card allegedly issued by Deputy Director Saurabh Jain but the IAS academy has given a clean chit to the Deputy Director.

Refuting her charges, Jain said, “I completely deny all the allegations. I will take action as per law, including filing of defamation case.”

An Uttarakhand police team also visited Chaudhry’s native Kutba-Kutbi village in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh to record statements of her family members.

All the documentary records seized from the woman as well as the video recording, photographic and CCTV footage related to the incident has been handed over to the SIT for investigation, it said in a statement issued by the Joint Director of the Academy D Nariala.

With the incident sparking security concerns, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said the Centre will step in, if necessary, into the matter after the academy’s inquiry.

Chaudhry had accused Jain of having taken a bribe of Rs five lakh from her in three instalments for issuing her the ID card on the basis of which she stayed there for over six months. Chaudhry had also claimed that she had been assured the job of a librarian there in exchange for Rs 20 lakh.

Chaudhry also said that the episode had adversely affected her ties with both her own family and her in-laws.

“I am in deep depression. I have lost my ties with my family and in-laws. If I don’t get justice, I will have no choice but to commit suicide,” she said.
