Chattisgarh water resources engineer arrested in disproportionate assets case

Raipur: An executive engineer of Chattisgarh Water Resources Department was arrested along with his brother, a government contractor, in connection with recovery of unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 5 crore from them in December last year, an ACB official said here today.

The executive engineer (In-charge), WRD, Bilaspur, Alok Agrawal and contractor Pawan Agrawal were arrested last evening for their alleged involvement in corruption cases, SP Anti Corruption Bureau, Rajnesh Singh told PTI.

A case was registered against them under relevant sections of the Prevention of?Corruption Act 1988 following the seizure of bribe money and recovery of disproportionate property running into several crores of rupees during raids conducted by the department on December 30, 2014, the SP said.

The raids were carried out simultaneously by the sleuths of ACB and EOW at the premises of seven officials from departments of Irrigation,?Water Resources and Rural Engineering, in which a cash of around Rs 7 crore was recovered.

The officials also unearthed disproportionate assets, allegedly belonging to the officials and their kin, running into several crores along with some incriminating documents during the raids.
